Jessica,
I have found your above resources, much like the knowledge you impart in class, to be invaluable. I am sure I will find myself using them all over and over throughout the next year as I stretch and grow my technology wings.
I wanted to ask you if you were familiar with the program isafe? I had to complete the online courses as part of my Cherokee County Teach 21 classes. The site also has many lesson guides to teach all levels from k-12 about Internet safety, cyberbulleying, etc. It is worth your time and exploration if you have not seen it yet.
Thanks again for all of your expertise. You are truly a teacher leader and I admire your passion to share and help us grow.

I am intrigued by the digital citizenship unit. We are still trying to teach students how to behave in a classroom and in public so why should they know how to behave on the internet. I find this unit a great idea. Your article has also given me pause to think about how much of the new technology I want to stick my toe into this year. My first thought is to jump in and see what works, but like Kathryn, I feel that I need to think through what I want to do. Our project is using wikis for research, but now I'm wondering if it is best for the students. We like to jump on the technology bandwagon without thinking it through or knowing all of the ins and outs. It heartens me to know that Jess you know so much but have not taken all of it into your classroom. Now I don't feel like such a dinosaur.

Wow, what a wealth of information. It would be easy to get carried away with the opportunities available and dive headlong into something without being fully prepared. Thank you for sharing your experience...I started a facebook account early in the year as a means to communicate with my yearbook staff. I wish I had thought it through a little more. My staff was fine, but suddenly I have a huge network and now I have old friends posting, and issues like whether they will post something inappropriate has come to my mind. I also (being an old fogie) was not prepared to keep up with my facebook account. I feel like I am constantly checking accounts - my work email, my personal emails (two of them), my work blog, now my KMWP blog, the wiki, etc. It feels overwhelming. I think I need to back off a little and think about what I really want "out there." I am a Thoreau follower -- keep all your accounts on a thumbnail -- suddenly they are spread out everywhere...

This personal narrative has helped my anxiety level go down incredibly. I like the imagery of getting "your feet wet"...I don't know why I have the tendency of thinking I have to go in completely once I "start".

I know that 'could' does not equal 'should' and it is something I always tell my studetns, not only about resources, but also about life situations...yet as a teacher, I feel I should so I can talk to them about it.

Thanks for all the hard work you've put into creating these posts for us....you have opened my horizons!

I played with the WeeMee Avatar maker today. I probably won't use it in my classroom, but it was fun and I can see how it would help students in protecting their privacy.

I also looked at the gaggle e-mail site, which might be helpful for me in teaching letter writing and basic rules of netiquette if I ever decide to do that. I would have students write some letters on paper and some in e-mail format.

I like the netiquette sites listed, and I think most adults still need to learn those rules! For example, a student in my English 1101 class last semester sent me an e-mail with "I DO NOT AGREE WITH A C GRADE" as the subject line.

Hey Jess!

I thought you might find this article from Wired.

http://www.wired.com/culture/culturereviews/magazine/17-06/nep_newsocialism

I was reading it last night, and I think it discusses a lot of things we have been talking about.

Hope it finds your interest!

I am glad to know that my intuitive uneasiness with our ways of doing things is not unfounded. Change is possible. I agree that new teacher training is a key component.
